Anyone...? Anyone...?

The internet is a wonderful thing, ya know? For example, when one gets the urge to, say..., find homes featured in movies and television that might be currently for sale, Google is right there to help. Looky what I found...

Cameron Frye's house from Ferris Bueller's Day Off will be on the market in the near future for $1.65 million.  Says bankrate.com, "No actual windows were harmed in the making of the film." The home was designed in 1953 by architect A. James Speyer, with unique removable walls. The window that the famous Ferrari crashes through was made of fake made-for-breaking glass, and out of the ten cameras shooting the scene, only one caught the crash. As Ferris would say,"Life moves pretty fast..."

Les Mis ObSETssion

Earlier this year, I had the amazing opportunity to attend a discussion panel for all the Oscar nominated production designers and set decorators for the 2013 Academy Awards. Holy moly, it was so awesome. And the best most wonderful part? I mustered up the bravery to walk up to Anna Lynch-Robinson, the set decorator for Les Mis, and talk to her for a couple minutes. I was so star struck that I honestly don’t even remember what I said, but I do remember that she was crazy cool. =)

Who's That Girl

I’m constantly thinking about the ‘New Girl’ sets. Just all the time. Check this link out for a post from the set decorator, Jane Shirkes. I got a chance to meet her last year, and she’s super cool… exactly who you would expect to have helped create such great sets for this show…

1940's Theme Birthday Party

On the 18th of August, Samantha's 18th birthday party took place at my house, and it was just lovely, darling! [Plus 18 on the 18th?! What a gas!]

The decor included tissue poofs in neutral colors, hanging vinyls of 1940's favorites including Glenn Miller, music posters all about, and a swell photo booth with vintage radios and telephones. Swanky!

For jiving at night, the courtyard was decorated with lovely lights for dimly-lit dancin'. 

The party was lots of fun, and Sam had a great time.

Tissue Poof Balls

I love making these tissue poofs for parties, they are such an easy, adorable decoration & super cheap too.

What You'll Need:
-10 sheets of Tissue Paper
-Scissors
-Thin, cuttable wire
-[Depending on the thickness of your wire] Wire Cutters
-Ribbon or Fishing Line Wire

 1. Fold the 10 sheets of tissue accordion style, back and forth until you've folded the entire bunch.

 2. Cut pieces of wire for each poof... about 4 inches long.

4. Wrap the wire around the center of the folded tissue sheets to hold in place securely.

5. Cut the square edges to a more tapered, round edge on both ends.

6. Here's the fun part! Gently pull apart the separate sheets of tissue from each other as far as they will go and create the poofiness of the poof!

 

7. Last, decide if you want them to 'float' [use fishing line] or visibly hang [use the ribbon] and tie one end to the wire in the center of the poof. It may take a few minutes of hunting to find it, but it's best to save it for last so you can decide which side you want to be up and which side to face down [you can see the down-facing side best when hung up].

Frozen Peach-Cubes

This Independence Day, we made some delicious peach-cubes for our lemonade. They were oh-so-yummy! Here's how to make your own...

What You'll Need:
-Potato Peeler
-3 to 4 Peaches
-Blender
-Ice Cube Trays
-Freezer
-4 to 6 hours of freezing time =)

1. Find some ripe, juicy peaches & peel them with a potato peeler.

2. Put the peeled peaches into the blender, and blend until a sort-of puree is formed. Mmm.

3. Pour the peach mush into the ice cube trays, with an even amount in each cube.

4. Place trays level in the freezer and allow to harden for several hours.
5. Once they are frozen, pop them out and enjoy! I like them best in already-chilled lemonade. [That way they stay solid longer and don't break apart in your drink as quickly]
